“Individuals with pure hearts”
Waking up in the morning, brushing teeth, cleaning yourself, having breakfast, choosing your own clothes and many other daily living activities might seem effortless for us, but are struggle for some. Though they take time to learn basic things yet there are areas where they excel more than any typical individual. They might not know how to show love or be social but they have immense love and laughter in their heart to share. Who are these people? How are they different from us? What are they called?
They are individuals who have Autism spectrum disorder. Asperger’s syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified, autism, rett syndrome, Heller’s syndrome comes under the spectrum. It’s a privilege to be an individual having autism spectrum disorder because their are some skills that even typical individuals struggle with. They are one of the most honest, systematic follower, least complicated, smart and creative human being.
It is said “If you have met an individual with autism, then you have met an individual with autism” because each one is unique and special in their own way.
Prevention begins when we generate awareness and have empathy towards the happenings of surroundings as well. We at Lahe Lahe decided to Screen cinema from the world to bring in some awareness about various aspects of Mental Health. The screening of the film will be followed by a discussion on the subject led by a Developmental Therapist
On 18th October 2019, we screen the movie “Ocean Heaven”. It is a Chinese Movie with English subtitles on Father- son relationship, where son has Autism and father is diagnosed with cancer.

After the movie, there will be a facilitated discussion around “Autism Spectrum Disorder” by Mindful Cinema curator Shraddha Modi, a Developmental and a Behaviour therapist whose passion for mental health has motivated her to study and work in this field.
