Ramblings after Saaz, a musical evening at Lahe Lahe Santhe

posted on Jul 10, 2019

Poetry and Music communities are the oldest and most active communities at Lahe Lahe. Poetry sessions (Write Out Loud) are hosted every Tuesday and Music Jams are hosted every Wednesday. In-spite of both of them falling on weekdays, we have had active interest from regulars as well as new-bees to continue making these communities active. On suggestions from few regulars of Write out loud, we started a Monthly event for featuring three poets on one Sunday of the month-  Mehfil. Mehfil has been on for almost 1.5 years now and since the last 6 months now, we had been thinking of starting something similar for Music and we finally did in December. 2nd December was the first Saaz and what an evening it turned out to be!!

As an organizer, as an audience – there are few evenings which capture the essence of Lahe Lahe and all editions of Saaz just nailed it and how! The energy in the room was different, the love and talent shown in the room was different and it was just magic- pure magic. The three singers who were featured were awesome and I had goosebumps listening to them – the fact that such talented singers come every week to Lahe Lahe – we are truly blessed. What upped the evenings were also the open mic sessions at the end. Normally people are inhibited about performing to a new audience but in both the saaz events – they did, without inhibition and the audience was very very supportive. What moved me in the second edition of Saaz was that the audience went one step ahead in their support by singing along with the singers – showed that they are able to connect so well. It felt great that we (the Lahe Lahe team) has built such a space that encourages people to express themselves got personified during these evenings and how!!! Felt blessed about it. That we are doing something right. The struggles, the challenges, the busy schedules, the sleepless nights, the pain – are all worth it.

Saaz is hosted every first Sunday of the month at Lahe Lahe from 6-8 pm. Recommended to come early as it gets choc a bloc by the end of the evening!
